She’s an American civil rights activist. The first African-American child to desegregate an all-white Elementary School in Louisiana during the school desegregation act in 1960. Only six years old Bridges went to a school by herself escorted to school by four federal marshals and her mom. Many white parents pulled their kids out of class so that only Ruby and her teacher, Barbara Henry, were in the classroom for a whole year.
